Festival of Lights- Cincinnati Zoo, Cincinnati, Ohio

Leah and her friend, Olivia

On what would be Dale's last day off until Christmas, we decided to mark another item off of our "must do" Cincinnati Bucket List. We've been here seven Christmases now and this was our first trip out to the Festival of Lights at the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Gardens.

Apparently this is a big deal around here. Hailing from Indianapolis and having attended that Zoo's version of a light festival, I wasn't exactly "wow-ed", but we've been saving our six free 4-D theatre passes until Christmas because we'd been told that they show The Polar Express during the holiday season. This was worth the whole evening.

Being silly before The Polar Express

I will add that the $6.00 bag of hot, sweet, roasted almonds, while expensive...were quickly gobbled up and definitely worthy of the price. And the lights were beautiful, but we didn't have a lot of time, so we didn't have a chance to ride the train. I placed the wait for the choo-choo to be at about an hour. Thus, we opted for hoofing it around the park to see the lights.

Around the lake, they did have a great timed music display that is mesmerizing no matter your age. Santa was there and we even found Mrs.Claus too.

But mostly, these full-family adventures will become fewer and fewer in the coming months and years, so the chance to enjoy yet another "first" together was enough to make it a great evening.
