Had a chance to hang out with some friends Sunday night, roast marshmallows, eat s'mores (with Reese cups no less!), listen to and see some fireworks, have good conversation and reminded what community is supposed to be about...just living life together. Later, that evening after the kids were in bed, I felt the Holy Spirit nudging me to point out to them that even though it took no effort other than getting in the car, buying some marshmallows and Reese cups and driving there, this was an example of how are family will be serving together.
Did we go there with that intention? No. In fact, our hostess did more serving than we did! But these are some ladies we would never have gotten to know if Holy Spirit had not laid upon our hearts to seek out single women and begin to walk beside them.
So while our kids thought they were just hanging out and having fun with their friends (and getting loaded up on sugar too!), this is exactly one aspect of ministry Jesus is calling us to...loving people, entering into each others' lives and sometimes, "just hangin' out". After all, if we're not living life together, how will these moms feel comfortable and secure sharing their needs with us?
God is good isn't He? It's why I'm excited about His calling us to a deeper ministry...not only do we get to help women, sharing life and love with them, sometimes it's pretty sweet too!
